Welcome to the official website for The London Embassy - music for a cooler generation. The London Embassy music includes the piano track "20 Tons of Tension" and other smooth acoustic/electronic/symphonic music. Many styles are well suited for TV and film soundtracks. Free music downloads (for non-commercial use) are available from this site.

It would be nice to say that we were an international collective of both contemporary and classically trained musicians with a worldwide following. However the truth is that the "we" is one guy in a bedroom with a computer. Don't let that put you off though because it has taken me fifteen years to get to this point - a fact which I think guarantees a certain level of musical maturity. In that time the bedroom has moved from London to Sydney and I have gained one wife and one son.

So what have I been doing with my music until now? Well not much really. I have always loved the music making process, but never really wanted the complication of getting my music "out there". I always wanted to reach a wider audience but had no desire to do this through the traditional routes of live performances and record labels. However the technology now exists for me to produce and distribute music on my own terms, so this website is the first step in that process. Ultimately I intend to release an album (Whitehall), but in the meantime here is a small sample of the completed tracks.

When trying to describe my style my answer usually begins with "Er...". Thankfully here you can press the big blue "play" button and find out for yourself. I try to balance catchy acoustic instrumental melodies against punchy electronic backing. I have many "dance" influences but also like to give my tracks a proper song structure, allowing melodies and hooks to develop. The result is hopefully toe-tapping, mellow and sophisticated - with maybe some dance floor crossover potential. I like to compose and construct tracks from scratch, and (after fifteen years) I just about have the engineering skills to achieve the sounds I want. I play piano and some guitar, but mainly rely on programming virtual instruments rather than playing real ones. So although it would be great to get a session drummer or hire an orchestra, the next best thing for a cheapskate like me is to buy a new virtual instrument and get programming. However the trade-off (which I have to mention so that my wife understands why these tracks take so long) is the amount of programming time to achieve lifelike results. Many years ago I had synths, guitars, and rack-mount gear. Now I just have a PC running Cakewalk Sonar 7 and some Alesis M1 monitors. But as much as I miss the old equipment, the world of digital music and virtual instruments is a great place to be.
